The IT industry, especially in IT out-sourcing, can be divided into 3 broad areas:

  1. software
  2. IT infrastructure management services (IMS)
  3. IT-enabled services
Traditional IT courses have tended to not prepare students well for jobs in IMS. This is part of the reason industry giants like Microsoft, Cisco, Sun, HP, Red Hat, Symantec, etc., have created certification programs. The certifications like MCSA and CCNA demonstrate practical hands-on and theoretical competence in IMS-related areas of knowledge. Thus, they are popularly used in hiring and career advancement decisions within the IMS field.

One career path is to first earn a diploma or degree in IT or computer science and then only to study for a few selected certifications while working. This is usually very difficult to do with a full-time job, so it may take years to earn just a couple of certifications.

  1. get an IIHT TIMS certification that’s in high market demand
  2. have studied for about 16 IT industry certifications, e.g., CCNA
  3. are qualified, with advanced placement, for selected diploma and degree programs in IT in MUST (Malaysia), ITU (California, USA) and SMU (India).
Because the IIHT name is so reputable, just the TIMS certification from IIHT would be valuable in job placement in IMS globally. However, the student would also be equipped with the knowledge equivalent to about 16 IT industry standard certifications. Taking the equivalent short courses for these certifications would cost about at least RM 50,000, which is much more than what the student would pay for the TIMS program. Again, this alone would be a unbeatable value. But there is still one more benefit. For those who wish to augment their qualifications with a degree in IT, IIHT has a special relationship with Sikkim Manipal University (SMU). Graduates of TIMS would be qualified for the bachelors in IT program at SMU, with potential for advanced placement depending on results.

Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements for application for our TIMS program:

  1. SPM with at least 3 Credit passes in Mathematics, Science, and English
  2. Equivalent of SPM (Form 5) if obtained from outside Malaysia

Exemptions

Those with degree/diploma/A-levels (or equivalent) will be considered for exemptions from some subjects, or may prefer to do the pTIMS program. Contact us to discuss the options.
